Background: Augie hails from the mountains of Virginia (now known as West Virginia). He served in the 2nd Virginia Infantry under Thomas J. Jackson and, after the Battle of Manassas, was the first to pin the name “Stonewall” on the commander. Following the War, Augie and his wife Allison moved down the Shenandoah Valley, settling in Knoxville, and took to distributing liquor.
Origin of nickname: Augie Donatelli, a well known major league umpire for over 20 years, from the 1950s to the 1970s, was a family friend and taught me that it was important to “always hustle.”
